5 Summer AP Projects.
Each project came from examples given to me from the class rubric. The first I finished was a color painting of a still life with items that represent myself. The second, a still life drawing of reflective objects. The third, a social commentary inspired by the Bristol graffiti artist, Banksy. The fourth, a self portrait study in which I drew my face turing and becoming simpler and simpler. And finally the fifth, a still life that has a theme.

The first project consisted of still life objects that represent me. Such as the dark side of the moon record behind a small model of a creature in Pink Floyd's The Wall both represent my obsession for The Floyd and classic rock n' roll. The mask next to it, being Michael Myers, represents my love for horror movies, like Halloween, and The Silence of the Lambs. The rope like thing under it, which is actually a bullwhip represents my all time favorite film and action hero, Indiana Jones. The paint, obviously represents what I like to do. And the small replica old fashioned Disneyland ticket represents a possible future career and my love for the place. The glasses perched on the whip represent my recent love for Woody Allen's films. And finally, the simple white shirt underneath the many objects represents, A Clockwork Orange and my love of Stanley Kubrick films. The finished portrait came out pretty good. I wish they looked more realistic. The challenges came in the detailed lacing of the bull whip, and the edges of the wall behind the Pink Floyd creature. My main success in the painting was the shirt which I thought came out best.



My social commentary piece was a simple piece inspired by Banksy. I also wanted it to look a bit like the old cowboy wanted signs. I chose to use cotton paper because I liked the way the spray paint looked on it. The theme of the piece is about how Colorado legally sells an AR-15 assault rifle, which by the way was the gun James Holmes used in the recent massacre at an Aurora movie theatre, but does not 2 guys or 2 girls get married. I liked how this one turned out, specifically the charcoal dots of red. And I love what spray paint looks like on the paper.

This project was a still life that required reflective objects. I chose to use a wine glass, a glass coca cola bottle, and my sun glasses. This is my favorite of the 5. I thought this came out the best. Specifically the wine glass with its strict contrast next to bright white reflective lights. Also the coke bottle looks real along with the bottle which was my main intent. However the shades did not come out as accurately as the others. They looked a bit rough compared to the real smooth look the glass has. But the metal around the glass look fine.

This still life was supposed to have a theme with it. I chose to make it painting, using a brush, a small bottle of brown paint, and my cup I uses when I paint. The cup looked rather flat and non-contrasted. But I enjoyed using cross hatches to create the value. The paint brush came out great, but it was quite challenging to draw in the paint marks all over the handle. The top of the brush came out good and was very east. And the bottle of paint came out simple in places but complex in others. I like the the price bars on the white sticker and the paint marks on it.    

This project was my least favorite because it was very simple and not detailed enough. It was a self portrait study in which I made my self rather cartoonish and scratchy turing more cartooned and simple. It looks interesting but not very detailed. I do, however like the quick scribbles I made with charcoal. But overall it is probably the worst of the 5.
