Just finished this painting that was supposed to be a metaphor. I basically compared innocence, with what I dont find innocent, and wrong. I used Ron English for my inspiration.

Just finished breadth 3. Now starting Breadth 4. It has to be an exaggerated self-portrait. I might do a style like Kenton Nelson. His art is very simple and colorful and I like it very much.

 5 Summer AP Projects.
Each project came from examples given to me from the class rubric. The first I finished was a color painting of a still life with items that represent myself. The second, a still life drawing of reflective objects. The third, a social commentary inspired by the Bristol graffiti artist, Banksy. The fourth, a self portrait study in which I drew my face turing and becoming simpler and simpler. And finally the fifth, a still life that has a theme.
The first project consisted of still life objects that represent me. Such as the dark side of the moon record behind a small model of a creature in Pink Floyd's The Wall both represent my obsession for The Floyd and classic rock n' roll. The mask next to it, being Michael Myers, represents my love for horror movies, like Halloween, and The Silence of the Lambs. The rope like thing under it, which is actually a bullwhip represents my all time favorite film and action hero, Indiana Jones. The paint, obviously represents what I like to do. And the small replica old fashioned Disneyland ticket represents a possible future career and my love for the place. The glasses perched on the whip represent my recent love for Woody Allen's films. And finally, the simple white shirt underneath the many objects represents, A Clockwork Orange and my love of Stanley Kubrick films. The finished portrait came out pretty good. I wish they looked more realistic. The challenges came in the detailed lacing of the bull whip, and the edges of the wall behind the Pink Floyd creature. My main success in the painting was the shirt which I thought came out best.

My social commentary piece was a simple piece inspired by Banksy. I also wanted it to look a bit like the old cowboy wanted signs. I chose to use cotton paper because I liked the way the spray paint looked on it. The theme of the piece is about how Colorado legally sells an AR-15 assault rifle, which by the way was the gun James Holmes used in the recent massacre at an Aurora movie theatre, but does not 2 guys or 2 girls get married. I liked how this one turned out, specifically the charcoal dots of red. And I love what spray paint looks like on the paper.

This project was a still life that required reflective objects. I chose to use a wine glass, a glass coca cola bottle, and my sun glasses. This is my favorite of the 5. I thought this came out the best. Specifically the wine glass with its strict contrast next to bright white reflective lights. Also the coke bottle looks real along with the bottle which was my main intent. However the shades did not come out as accurately as the others. They looked a bit rough compared to the real smooth look the glass has. But the metal around the glass look fine.

This still life was supposed to have a theme with it. I chose to make it painting, using a brush, a small bottle of brown paint, and my cup I uses when I paint. The cup looked rather flat and non-contrasted. But I enjoyed using cross hatches to create the value. The paint brush came out great, but it was quite challenging to draw in the paint marks all over the handle. The top of the brush came out good and was very east. And the bottle of paint came out simple in places but complex in others. I like the the price bars on the white sticker and the paint marks on it.
This project was my least favorite because it was very simple and not detailed enough. It was a self portrait study in which I made my self rather cartoonish and scratchy turing more cartooned and simple. It looks interesting but not very detailed. I do, however like the quick scribbles I made with charcoal. But overall it is probably the worst of the 5.

I do also apologize, To Mrs. Dowling for taking so long to post this!

Recently finished final project. A portrait of Mr. Roger Waters.

Artist Statement: The intensions of the recent porject above, which is a portrait of Roger Waters, were to basically look like him in a realistic design as much as possible, and to promote his style and thoughts with splattered ink and quick fonts, as shown in some of his and The Floyd's albums. Caligraphy ink and charcoal pastels were the mediums used for the portrait. my techniques involed deep contrast and bright colors. It also included quickly written letters and ink splatters. The text above him was inspired by Roger's designer and friend Gerald Scarfe. He uses smooth, thin, ink written letters to create a mysterious and different style of font. I attempted to do the same, though, it did not come out as good, as I hoped for. It is rather rough and scrtchey ranther than smooth and quick. The splattered ink, rather, came out great. Splatter paint is a very simple and stylistic way to add texture. So I, obviously did this. Roger's portrait finished pretty good. It looks like him, with pretty nice proportion, which is one thing I cannot leave inexact. The shading looks better in the picture above, then live, in front of you. There are smears from his black shirt on his skin, which makes it look pale and muddy, but overall, like I said, it came out pretty good. What I basically say or describe in the piece is my admiration of this man, and his music and basic beliefs. You could hopefully tell by this picture, that I like Roger Waters. I hope if he were ever to see this, he would consider it an accurate depiction. My intensions were somewhat successful, mainly in the proportion and value. I do hope to improve my skills in portraits of Mr. Waters, because, I know this will not be the last one.

Artist Statement.

Music, movies, people, and opinions, are the main things that I describe in my art. My favorite film characters are mainly portrayed in my art whether its fine or digital. Indiana Jones, Alex Delarge, the Schoolmaster, Pink, Aron Ralston, Batman and many more have been used in portraits. Rock n' Roll figures also take place in my art. But essentially my art is just explanations of inspirational people, or people who I just find awesome. The most recent portrait introduced in art form I have created for art class, is Alex Delarge. He is the main character of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. This is a scene in the movie in which he undergoes the, "Ludivico Treatment," a medical technique to make ultra-violent people, such as Alex. My overall goal was to create perfect proportion and detail. It did not work perfectly, but it I am very happy with how it finished. My frustrations were moments when the black charcoal traveled into the color, which resulted in making it look gray. I also wish more shadow and color was in the face. But I love how the strap across his head turned out, and his head, other than the color. The most important aspect in my many techniques is value. I always want to create the most realistic value possible. And an overall important aspect of my art is hopefully to interest people who have not seen the characters in these movies and hopefully encourage them to watch them rather than Transformers and Twilight. Basically I wont my art to interest people.
